The diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders: DSM-III-R, focuses on the addition of new symptoms of ADHD, based on further studies and discussions of characteristics of children diagnosed with ADHD. In essence, the revised version combined the two previous subtypes, attention deficit and hyperactivity, into one set of symptoms with a single cutoff score based on a rating scale.
