Description: The Market Revolution was a drastic change in the manual-labor system originating in the South (and soon moving to the North) and later spreading to the entire world. Traditional commerce was made obsolete by improvements in transportation, communication, and industry.
Causes: There was a need for rapid improvements in transportation and communication, the production of goods for a cash market, and the use of inventions and innovations to produce goods for a mass market.
Historical Impact: Urbanization began to occur due to the industrialization and demand for jobs, in which more people began moving to the cities, especially Immigrants (Ireland, England, Germany, and France). In 1860 the urban population was 6% and it grew to 15% in 1860.
