This was a very big achievement for America, this is one one of the most important documents in America's history. The Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson in 1774. On July 2nd of 1776 The Continental Congress voted to adopt the Declaration of Independence, and 12 out of the 13 colonies voted yes, but the Congress wanted it to be unanimous so everyone agreed the rights were equal. The rewriting went on until July 4th. It was on this day that The Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence, although it wasn't signed until August 2nd.
