Ayatollah Khomeini led the revolution against the Monarchy Regime and SHah after the Shah were criticized for organizing a fascist one-party state, widening the gap between the rich and poor, rigging elections, etc. This revolution set up the Islamic Republic and the theocratic system that still stands in Iran today.
