3 mar 1820 año - Mississouri Compromise
Descripción:
A compromise made between the North and South that allowed the admission of Missouri as a slave state and allowed admission of Maine as a free state. This also set boundaries which prohibited slavery north of the latitude 36° 30’.
Causes
1) Both sides were arguing over whether Missouri could be admitted into the Union as a slave state.
2) Both Missouri and Maine’s admission to the country were very controversial topics.
3) This was made in an effort to have a balance in powers in Congress between the Northern and Southern states.
Impact
This allowed both Missouri and Maine to become states and set a boundary line that determined which states were free states and slave states. This compromise was later repealed by the Kansas - Nebraska Act.
