The British troops drove the Patriots up the Charlestown peninsula near Boston but they also suffered heavy loses despite the fact that they won. The British were trying to capture Bunkerhill and succeeded in doing so even though they almost lost. If the Patriots had more ammunition, then they possibly could've won.
