Known as the “Maid of Orleans,” she was a peasant from southern France. At age 14 she became a war lord who had great military skill and threaten the English during the Hundred Years’ War.

She is important to the way that women are remembered or turned into a myth during Early Modern Europe, especially in relation to class, sexuality and post-war experiences. She never killed anyone with her own hand, she was a peasant who was given authority from the divine, she was a virgin, and died a martyr.
