Calvinists, as a religious sect, was one of the most influential religious groups of the 16th century. This is in part because many Calvinists were missionaries, preaching their doctrine in many places in Europe, far and wide, and because they had very forward ideas about the church and the state, seeking to Christianize kingdoms instead of being complacent. Furthermore, because they were so active in seeking conversion and spreading their ideas, Calvinists are more important than Lutherist, even though Martin Luther, as a person, was more important than John Calvin.
