25 sept 1555 año - Peace of Augsburg - 1555

Descripción:

The Peace of Augsburg was promulgated in 1555 by the legislature of the Holy Roman Empire, and was the first permanent legal basis for the religious coexistence of the Lutherans and Catholics in Germany. This religious compromise ended conflict between the Lutherans and Catholics. The Peace of Augsburg did not bring peace upon other religious congregations it was only effective for the Lutheran and Catholic Churches. The legislature ruled that there should not be war between religious groups and peace should remain until the churches reunite. The agreement allowed princes to select either religion as the religion during their reign. Charles V refused to be a part of the religious compromise and was not present at the proceedings. He worked through his brother, Ferdinand I to have his opinions represented.
