The Monroe Doctrine prohibits European colonialism and expansion anywhere in the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine was written in response to agreements made at the Congress of Vienna and and during the period of Latin American countries revolting against the Spanish and Portuguese. The Monroe Doctrine was agreed upon by both America and Britain and signified a mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries- America’s concern being less people to oppose, and Britain’s concern being trade opportunities in the Caribbean.
