After the babylonian exile ended Jews in the Land of Israel tried hard to live according to their religion. However they faced harsh and unfair treatment by rulers of the Greek and Roman empires. The land of Israel became part of the Roman empire. By this time, it was called Judaea, or land of the Jewish people. Disrespect toward Judaism led Jews to rebel against Rome. In response, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem, including the Second Temple.
