The Proclamation of 1763 was the first major event that contributed to the Revolutionary War. After the French and Indian War, King George issued the Proclamation with the goal of controlling British settlement within the confines of the Appalachian Mountains because he wanted people to start to settle in the newly acquired territories of Canada and Florida. This angered the colonists because they believed that it was their right to settle wherever they wanted.
