The Convention of 1818, also the Treaty of 1818, was a treaty signed in London outlining for the most part boundaries, regulations, and the restoration of slavery in the United States. In this treaty, the 49th parallel was set as the Northern border between the United States and Canada. This had an influence on power because it provided the United States with regulations on where they could settle when migrating Westward, and also cut off some of the lands from the Louisiana Purchase.
