6 nov 1860 año - Southern Divisions Leading to a Northern Victory

Descripción:

With the presidential election of 1860 came an important decision. With the north and south butting heads and becoming vehemently angry at each other, the president would need to be someone capable of fixing and reuniting the country in the wake of a possible civil war. Each side had its own candidates, but even they were split. Some southerners were having talks of secession, while some others wanted to merely keep what rights they had within the union, and some others even wanted to prevail over the north and make slavery universal in the United States. Because the south wasn't in complete agreement on how to approach the situation, their votes were split between three candidates, while the north had but one. Because the north had no intentions of secession or overcoming the south, it was relatively united, and thus Abraham Lincoln got more votes than those spread between John Bell, Stephen Douglas, and John Breckinridge. This angered southerners, as it seemed the north would have the presidential advantage as conflicts came to a head, and thus they mostly decided that the only way to preserve slavery and their livelihoods would be to physically fight against the north to prevent them from abolishing it.
