Strasky dispatches divers who are currently surveying Lambda—Maggie Komorebi’s team—to pick Akers up. There is some kind of altercation instigated by Akers. According to the black box on Shawn Evans’s corpse, Akers was injecting “that shit”—presumably structure gel—into them. “I think I made it worse by pulling away.” Evans bleeds out on the floor of the control room, leaving Maggie to warn Theta before Akers gets there. She dies on the floor of the access point while trying to call Strasky. With her is a tablet of photographs of Akers’s attack. Two divesuits are left at the zeppelin site. One contains a body that still seems to be alive, connected to the WAU; the other has a crushed or deactivated black box.
Akers uses the zeppelin to travel to Theta. At some point he has removed both his eyes.
