Mentioned in the bible and all over medieval art, leprosy or Hansen's disease has always been misunderstood and demonized despite only being able to infect 5% of the human population. The appearance of people with lepromatous leprosy, the infamous deformed faces, and tuburculoid leprosy, missing fingers, as well as all their symptoms has made for terrifying images despite the fact it's nowhere as terrifying in truth than it seems.
