Donald Johanson uncovered the buried remains of “Lucy”, a new species that was the newly uncovered/oldest ancestor of the hominin species. The remains are over a million years old and show evidence of it walking upright by the placement of its hips. This discovery was crucial in getting a better idea of when apes and humans began to diverge down different genetic paths.
