The iron curtain refers to the boundary that divided communist Europe and western-controlled Europe, and it was defended militarily against the west by the Warsaw pact. It was finally lifted when Hungary and Austria allowed the crossing of their borders. This was the beginning of the fall of communism. This event is mostly related to the concept of detente because tensions between communist countries and western countries in Europe were eased.
