After the Rhineland move, Hitler met separately with French journalist Bertrand de Jouvenal and British analyst Arnold J. Toynbee emphasising his limited expansionist aim of building a greater German nation, and his desire for British understanding and cooperation. King Edward VIII, over the head of the Baldwin Government, orders the military to stand down in relation to the move.
