It was clear from the minute that school started that Steve's health had repaidly deteriorated over summer. He was using a wheelchair and was tired often. He was a trooper though and came to school nearly everyday, with Diane, as he could no longer drive himself.

Do you know what it's like to watch someone die of ALS before your eyes? It's terrible. For everyone.

By this time, I had grown close to Steve and Diane (and his kids). He was trying a gluten free (GF) diet and we bonded over GF treats, and his vision for our school community. We talked a lot about God and his Faith in God. He, despite his awful prognosis, gave me strength.

I miss him dearly.
