After their defeat in World War I, Germany was sent into a crisis of economic loss and poverty much like the Great Depression in America. The German citizens were desperate when a man named Adolf Hitler rose to power and promised to improve their country's situation if everyone followed his example. Hitler blamed the Jewish for Germany's problems and sought world domination. The country was converted into a dictatorship called Nazi Germany. Hitler ignored the military restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles and began developing weapons and vehicles for war. He joined an alliance with Japan and the two countries formed the Axis Powers. World War II officially began on September 3rd, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland causing Great Britain to declare war. America later entered the conflict after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.
