"The Spaniard That Blighted My Life" was released in 1911 by English musician Billy Merson. It was a comedic song that gained more popularity when Al Jolson recorded his own version of it on March 7th, 1913. Al was sued by Merson for copyright infringement, resulting in the removal of the song from one of Jolson's films. Despite this, "The Spaniard That Blighted My Life" would go on to sell over a million copies. In 1947, just three years before his death, Jolson would perform the song as a duet alongside legendary singer Bing Crosby.
