Abdul Raouf Khalil and the rise of private museums: 1985
On the eve of its inauguration in Al-Andalus neighborhood in Jeddah in 1985, the Museum of Art Abdul Raouf Khalil included nearly 12,500 rare pieces of art that were distributed to 67 halls gathered by Khalil in 33 years. He established a collection of museums in Jeddah, besides his main museum: the Museum of Home Arts, the Museum of the National Culture of Durrat, and finally the Museum of the City of Taibat, which he built in the old Hijazi style with the sea stone, the noura and the roucheen, making alleys and routes of which showed his passion for the Hijazi character.
