Cuneiform tablets dated back to 785 B.C.E. show that by that time, wine rations were being provided to as many as 6,000 people in the Assyrian royal household. These records say that ten men were given one liter of wine per day to share between them. Skilled workers were given one liter to share between 6 of them.(pg. 49)
