11 feb 1746 año - Massacre at Grand Pre

Descripción:

Acadia under British rule was contemplated since as early as 1713, with both French and British debating the removal of Acadians from the land as it transitioned to Nova Scotia under British Control.

The massacre at Grand Pre also put at question the loyalty of the Acadian population, who swore neutrality. With a direct attack on British soldiers and siding with the M'ikmaq who were openly hostile to the British, the decision to expel Acadians was soon followed.

This marked a turning point for Nova Scotia's population, further influenced by loyalist immigrants following the War of 1812, as Acadian culture was wiped and only a few returned to rebuild on a vastly smaller scale.
