King Wilhelm I and Prime Minister Otto Von Bismarck of Prussia, dreamed of a German Unification. Bismarck accomplished this through blood and iron, his famous phrase. He had a plan that consisted of the stages. Stage 1: Take the German-speaking lands from Denmark with the help of the Austrian Empire. Stage 2: Take the German-speaking lands from the Austrian Empire. Then finally Stage 3: Provoke France into starting a war with Prussia. All three stages were successful and after the Franco-Prussian War ended King Wilhelm I was proclaimed the German Emperor.
