USA drops an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki, with the purpose of forcing Japan to surrender. The bombing killed about 74000 people. The Nagasaki bombing is most closely related with the deterrence concept because the USA used nuclear force in attempts to prevent Japan from further participating in the war.
