1 mar 1774 año - The Intolerable Acts

Descripción:

Beginning in March of 1774, a series of 5 laws were passed by the British Parliament that were labeled, "The Intolerable Acts" by the American colonists.

The first four of these measures were passed in a direct response to The Boston Tea Party of 1773. They were aimed primarily at punishing the colony of Massachusetts by closing the Port of Boston, altered the Massachusetts government to bring it under British government control, and forcing colonists to house and feed British troops in their homes, at their expense and with no compensation.

It was hoped that these measures would isolate the troublesome colony, and serve to end dissent throughout the region.

In fact, just the opposite occurred. Representatives of the colonies gathered together in Philadelphia for what became known as the First Continental Congress, and tensions, already high, boiled over into the Battle of Lexington/Concord, which resulted in the official outbreak of the American Revolution.
