Machiavelli, a leading Italian philosopher during the Renaissance, wrote The Prince as a survival guide for independent city-states of Italy. He asserted that successful governments acted in their own political interest and was therefore perceived by many as ruthless and immoral. Machiavelli and his most famous work, The Prince, fit in the OS category because through his book, he spread his unpopular opinion on how a government should rule.
