After the short battle of Appomattox Court House, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered, and a few days later, nearly all of the Confederate forces had surrendered. This was the last major battle of the Civil War.The house where Lee surrendered was auctioned off in 1869 because the owner defaulted on their loan payments.
