Written by Niccolo Machiavelli after he was kicked out of Florence when the Medici family rose to power again, this treatise describes how a prince or ruler should act. They should not rely on the divine right of the king as most rulers did at that time, but instead mantain a balance and make descions based on what would be good for the state, even if the citizens disagree. This treatise was based on Machiavelli's own experiances of being a secretary of Florence
