Charles Lyell was the first to rock the boat about the popular belief of Catastrophism. Lyllell first started having a problem with catastrophism his teacher, William Buckland of Oxford University began lecturing on its relations to the bible. Speaking out, he argued that this was not correct, and then begun the fought to make geology its own branch of science. Charles’s style of geology is nowadays known as uniformitarianism because he believed which everything that happens to the Earth is repeated over and over over millions of years in a circular system.
