John Adams was inaugurated as president in 1797, after the end of George Washington's eight-year-long term. John Adams, a cousin of Samuel Adams, became the first vice president and second president in the United States of America. Before becoming president, John Adams was a well-known lawyer and diplomat that worked on many cases such as the British soldiers who shot five people, four colonists and a slave named Crispus Attucks, during the Boston Massacre in 1770
