1 ene 1911 año - Rutherford’s Model of the Atom (1917):

Descripción:

Ernest Rutherford was a New Zealand chemist best known as the “father of nuclear physics” who was famous for discovering that atoms have a small charged nucleus surrounded by largely empty space, and are circled by tiny electrons, which became known as the Rutherford model of the atom. He discovered this from one of his experiments with radioactivity ,thin gold foil and a type of radiation called alpha particles. He then discovered the existence of a dense, positively
charged core in the atom which is now called the nucleus. After his experiments, he then proposed this:

• The nucleus is a very tiny, dense, and positively
charged core of an atom.
• All of the atom’s positively charged particles, called protons, are contained in the nucleus.
• The nucleus is surrounded by mostly empty space.
• Rapidly moving, negatively charged electrons are scattered outside the nucleus around the
atom’s edge in what is referred to as an electron cloud.

This was also a major contribution to the scientific community and the development of the atom.
