The Every Child Succeed Act is signed into law by President Obama and sought to replace the No Child Left Behind Act. This act shifts the involvement of the federal government in mandating student outcomes and testing and gives the power back to the states (Klein). The ESSA took effect as of 2017-2018, and focuses on school accountability, intervention and reexamines state testing and how it is reported. It also bases funding based on school rating.
