The Alien and Sedition Acts, signed in by John Adams, made it harder for immigrants to vote in the government by raising the amount of wait time from 5 to 14 years. It also gave the government the power to deport immigrants. These laws made it so people couldn’t talk poorly about the government, which oppressed immigrants from arguing against these laws.
