J.J Thomson discovered electrons and protons. Thomson's discovery of electrons happened when he was studying an electric current going through a gas. After performing experiments Thomson was led to believe that electrons have a small mass and a negative charge. Thomson was also experimenting with gas discharge when he noticed there were much heavier particles with a positive charge. These were later called protons.
