Used refraction of light to project an image onto a canvas which would then be traced by someone. This demonstrated the earliest successful movement towards capturing real life outside of orthodox painting methods. Bring in mind this was around 600 years ago, I would say it has strong signifigance not only in film history, but also in technological advancement as a wholes history as it showed the progress was thre to be made.
