In Paris, there was a rumor that the King was intending on using military force to dismiss the National Assembly and that the troops were coming to Paris to massacre the citizens. As a result French people began gathering weapons and ammunition to defend the city. In the search for gunpowder a mob gathered and stormed the Bastille, a prison in Paris. This day became known as the beginning of the French Revolution and also became the French Independence day.
