Colombia gained independence in 1822 after separating from Spain, their colonizer. One of the greatest reasons for this revolution was that Spain was treating the people of Colombia terribly. Simón Bolivar was one of the most important leaders in this revolution who greatly helped free Colombia, and many other countries.
