Technicolor was the process of filming on two or three strip film cells, to create a negative of the colour on screen (to merge the cells later on for colour).

Three-strip colour was invented by Burton Wescott and Joseph A Ball experimented with additional ranges of colours.

Becky Sharp in 1935 was the first feature film to use three strip colour. This was of landmark importance, as the colour was vibrant and life-like using this technique (compared to other methods).
