John Singleton Copley's 'Watson and the Shark'--the art of early settlers in America are mostly handicrafts such as embroidery samplers, ivory carvings, silver pieces, and quilts. Most of the artworks are realistic portraits and historical paintings that imitated the painting style of Europe. This painting’s author, Copley, moved to London to escape from the tension of the Revolutionary War. He used this painting to represent his terror of new heights.
