5 dic 1976 año - First use of the steady cam

Descripción:

The steady cam is a lightweight device that constantly levels out during filming to create a smooth and steady look. It was invented by Garret brown and was first used in the film 'Bound for glory' on this date.

Originally, the only two ways a smooth and consistent shot could be done was on a big and expensive 'Dolly' or crane that needed tracks or multiple people to set up/operate. It could only work on certain terrains, so shots going up steps and various other locations, wouldn't work. The steady cam was a way lighter, more portable and easier device that could achieve these same shots for less.

Today there is an even smaller and cheaper version of a steady cam called a 'Gimble' which creates the same effect but can hold up your IPhone or portable cameras.

Both these inventions allowed access to more professional and stunning shots and footage to lower budget filmmakers and contributed to the increasing technological advancements in film equipment.
