Don walks into the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (627 E 187th St, Bronx, NY 10458) and talks to a catholic priest. Don is frustrated because he feels like it is his duty to serve his country like his older brother is. He wants to enlist but Mia doesn't want him to join. She is scared to say goodbye to him and doesn't want to keep developing her relationship with him and then watch him go off to war. She is also scared that He will die and not come back and that she will not be able to handle it.

Don is sitting in the chapel thinking when the father walks and sits down next to him. They talk about the situation of the world and don says he wants to get something off his chest. they move their conversation to the confession booth and the father asks Don what he would like to confess. Don says its nothing like that and then explains his situation with Mia. The father talks about love and duty and then tells his story about how he loved a girl but said goodbye to her because he promised God that he would dedicate his whole life to him if he saved his mother from influenza. His mother was healed and he vowed when he was old enough he would become a priest. When Is a young man he falls in love with a girl but ultimately says goodbye to her to join the priesthood. He says that he misses her and often wonders what would have been but relizes that he would have always hated himself for not performing keeping his promise (his duty) with God. Don relizes that he must go to war and and perform his duty if he is going to live with himself.
