14 jun 1763 año - Proclamation of 1763
Descripción:
Date: 1763
Image:
British Rationale: The British sought to prevent the colonization of any native lands West of the Appalachian Mountains, so as to maintain their alliance with the native people. They also hoped to somewhat contain colonial expansion, making rulership easier and more manageable.
Colonial Reaction: The colonists became frustrated very quickly. They viewed the victory of the French and Indian War as one granting them the right to settle such native lands, and the fact that they weren’t able to cash in on what they fought for infuriated them.
Caption: Following the French and Indian War, the British issued this proclamation restricting colonial expansion past the Appalachian mountains. While enacted out of good intention (to make rulership easier and to keep native lands unsettled, maintaining Indian alliances), the colonists took it poorly.
