Up to 3 different people are accidentally exposed to a spore that can be lethal when inhaled. The plant it comes from releases the spores when it is touched, so the character may have accidentally stepped upon a spore pod, or brushed up against one. The human reaction to inhaling the spores is slow but inexorable: Mucus production is increased until the person effectively drowns. However, there IS a known antidote.
