In 1891, pharmacist Asa Candler purchased the rights to Coca-Cola and the beverage, composed of caffeine and coca, spread throughout the country. Many people tried to imitate the beverage, the most potent imitant was Coca-Bola, containing 710 milligrams per ounce of cocaine.
