The binary code was created by Leibniz in 1679. Using only two digits (usually 0 and 1) the binary number system has only two possible states--off and on. The code works based on the principle of numbers on the power of two, making it unique from other coding techniques, but also useful in two function systems. Because of this, the binary system is used in modern computers to perform the simple functions of on and off.
