Many types of animals died out during this time, including most marine reptiles, some large amphibians, a large number of cephalopod mollusks, and reef-building creatures. Events blamed for these catastrophes include the typical asteroid imapocts, climate change, ans flood basalt eruptions. About half the animal population became extint, yet plants were barely even effected.
