The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (better known by its acronym NATO), was established as a defensive pact against Soviet Aggression. It was originally made up of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Luxembourg, Iceland, and Italy.
